A thread to keep track of models for "DRG0000bz1", "SDSS J162300.29+213720.5", "ARG00029e1" from this GZ thread and this Radio Galaxy Zoo thread started by @DolorousEdd.

As with all our modelling attempts can you:

    • Only have a single model in a post.
    • List the parent of the model (if applicable)
    • Glass configuration (Redshift / Pixel Radius / Number of models)
    • The ID of the model you have just generated
    • The changes you have made to the model
    • The results of your changes.
    • Thoughts for improvement.

    For Example:

    • Parent - 4516
    • Glass Configuration - Redshift: (Lens: 0.5 / Source: 1) ; PixelRadius: (8) ; nModels: (200)
    • Revised Model - 4568
    • Action - Moved the minima to the NE of the galaxy and added a mass point.
    • Result - The arc is more clearly defined from 7 to 11:30, not too happy about the predicted counter image at 2:45
    • Thoughts - Perhaps a cleaner mass distribution?

Feedback is encouraged on everyone models, just remember to keep it positive!

And a template - amend where necessary! Just copy and paste 😃

    • Parent - n/a
    • Glass Configuration - Redshift: (Lens: 0.75 / Source: 1.5) ; PixelRadius: (10) ; nModels: (200)
    • Revised Model - 6S2KKQMMQM
    • Action - basic model to kick things off.
    • Result - nice contours, mass distribution and synthetic image.
    • Thoughts - Might try inserting a mass point to the lower left, to test the impact.

    • Revised Model - 7UNGLZU466
    • Action - Added mass point to the lower left of the galaxy.
    • Result - Not much change
    • Thoughts - Over to you guys - I am not going to be online too often over the next few days. Can't wait to see the new models. Don't feel obligated to revise mine, I was just having fun modelling. 😃

    • Glass Configuration - Redshift: (Lens: 0.75 / Source: 1.5) ; PixelRadius: 12 ; nModels: 200
    • Revised Model -XWFA4MRTGL
    • Action - squeezed spaghetti, saddle up toward mass deflector, no need another point mass
    • Result - thicker arc
    • Thoughts - don't know how to rotate further ellipse mass map

    • Revised Model - LHSJVNGR56
    • Action - Ajusted the spahetti, slightly move the maxima and saddlepoint to the north
    • Result - Thicker arc, the rest still looks good.

    • Revised Model - B5MUP7UXND
    • Action - moved the lower saddlepoint a bit out and lowered the two minima
    • Result - nice arc, cleaner counter image. The rest looks clean too

    • Revised Model - D54P3P7LFP
    • Action - moved the minima up a bit
    • Result - looks like ring now. Mass distribution not as clean as the parent.
    • Thoughts - not really an improvement

Hmmm, indeed. Not so sure we are going down the right path with the complete ring synthetic models.

Have you tried playing around with the source redshift? I see everyone is using my original glass config values - I had a rough guess at the source value.

I really agree with the ring not being a good idea. I did try changing the source redshift, but it didn't make much difference.

I am trying the same at the moment - all the models I have generated so far look degraded.

    • Parent - RQ43BRMHPH
    • Glass Configuration - Redshift: (defaults) ; PixelRadius: (8) ; nModels: (200); asymmetric
    • Revised Model - FDROK5X2YW
    • Action - Tried putting two minima and two saddles on the arc
    • Result - Spurious extra image, but synthetic image not implausible.
    • Thoughts - Just experimenting -- if a model turns up that has an elongated mass distribution similar to the visible galaxies, that would be more convincing, but this isn't it. [By the way, changing the redshifts turns the whole mass distribution up or down, but does not change the shape. So it's safe to stick with the default redshifts, and let the redshifts be adjusted later.]

Are you also getting an error when trying to generate a model?

    APIError: Get_or_post_ param_missing

    Prasenjit 😃

    Good to see you!

I had some sort of error message when I was trying out some of my most outrageous models. But I think the programme just didn't want to compute at all.

So, no , I didn't get this sort of error message.

Guess I might have to start again - will give me a chance to experiment 😃 Thanks for the tip @pshaha 😃

    • Thoughts - not sure this is the way to go ! 😄

I would agree - not so sure sure about the placement of the maxima.

The contour and mass distribution maps are quite good, but they just don't match up to the visual image. The lower arc in the synthetic image would almost be almost off screen on the last image!
