Hi modellers
Please try to model some of the 30 sims I'll append to this thread! This is important to test how good we are at modelling.
Thanks!

Excellent Rafael! Looking forward to posting my own models 😃
Can we keep this thread just for posting results on the sims. Just a heads up, that if you post anything else - it may not be here when you get back 😉

ASW0001hpf asymmetric model something complicated happening here. Is the centre offset from the galaxy as in this other model? And this one.

ASW0003ctp 003170 I thought I did well on this. Having trouble with Firefox/Windows7. Won't display results some of the time. Will switch to laptop.EDIT: Wed morning 7am BST , modeler won't download the image ASW0004nfh on laptop / chrome / Windows Vista. Maybe the program is off-line for upgrading at that time?

Hi all
First I want to thank you for your engagement and the great work you're doing! Without you, my thesis would not be possible.
We started evaluating the modeled sims. I would like to show you a few selected plots showing how well you did so far modeling the sims. Those are RANDOM plots, I just choose a few to show a few things, but they are NOT at all representative for a users overall performance! Also, they are blacked out / censored, to not influence the final result. I hope you are fine with not censoring the user names, otherwise please let me know. As soon as my thesis is written, I can provide you the full results, if you're interested.
We have plotted basically the radially averaged enclosed mass density / mean convergence. For example, a point at x=10 (horizontal) / y=2 (vertically) means that a circle with radius 10 around the center, the mass density (total mass divided by the area) within this circle is 2. The units don't matter much.
To make it short: The lines stands for how much the mass density is within a certain radius.
On the plots you see:
- a blue band: this represents the users model (the area represents the variation / error)
- a red line: this is the actual solution from the modelling parameters
- a few vertical lines: those show where the saddle points (green), minima (cyan) and maxima (red) were placed, radially.
- one magenta horizontal marker line at y=1 (read on)
Where the magenta horizontal line crosses the line (red / blue), this stands for the Einstein Radius (radius of a potential Einstein Ring), which is an important characteristic value.
A perfect model would be if the red line lies within the blue band everywhere. But this wasn't expected, as it's really hard to achieve even for professionals. You will always get the red line to overshoot the blue band at the start and to undershoot it in the middle, if you only slightly misplace the center.
You have a very good model if:
- the overall shape of the blue band and the red line are the same
- the red line crosses the magenta line within the blue band (that means, the Einstein Radius is the same within error margins)
- the crossing of red and magenta line lies within the placed images
Nice fit of the overall shape, Einstein Radius slighly off
The same here, nice fit of the overall shape, Einstein Radius slighly off
An example of one that didn't went so well. Einstein Radius is double of what is should be. That was a hard one..
An example of a almost perfect one
The result of a professional. not very much different from the others
So thanks again for your work so far. As usual, it would be really nice to have more data 😉 So if any other volunteers would like to join, or you want to to a few more, feel free to do so. It's not too late 😃 Later this afternoon I'll upload an update to SpaghettiLens, that allows you (finally) to load existing models from the results page and continue to work on those. So you can revise you own or others models easily.

ASW00004k0 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004032 I can't make this one look good.
ASW0000ar2 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004038 Are there 3 arcs?
ASW0000bl0 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004052 can't get arcs to be short
ASW0000bsh http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004053 not too bad
ASW0000e28 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004062 got most of the light in one arc, not too bad
ASW0000h2m http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004074 Einstein cross is a challenge, http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004091 synthetic image is a perfect cross, too bad the initial image isn't. http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004095 another nice cross, is there supposed to be an arc in the middle? ie. 5 arcs?
ASW0000kad http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004110 I can't seem to work all the arcs into the model, so I chose 2 arcs.
ASW0000vqg http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004120 kept it simple, used lens z of 0.5, and source of 1. decided that lens was yellow and closer http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004155 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004144 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004127

ASW000102p http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004128
ASW00013ml http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004136 kept it simple as possible
ASW000195x http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004161 arc too long, but contour map is nice
ASW00019rw http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004165 Einstein cross, quite poorly done
ASW0001a2m http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004167 messy http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/004168 tried different saddle
ASW0001a8c http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005398 Einstein cross, not too bad
ASW0001d74 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005400 rather pleased with this one
ASW0001gae http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005431 good, model sensitive to the center of mass
ASW0001gve http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005434 lovely kite shaped Einstein cross
ASW0001hpf http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005437 another kite shaped Einstein cross, got the bright areas in about the right place
ASW0001sym http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005440 is OK, http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005442 makes a square Einstein ring, with bright spots in the right areas.
ASW00023pg http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005452 some of it OK, bottom part needs more light
ASW0002b6m http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005468 most of arcs in right place
ASW0002jo0 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005474 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005476
ASW0002z6f http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005498 couldn't quite get it
ASW00031ve http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005500 nearly a complete ring
ASW0003ctp 003170
ASW0004nfh http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005503 generally OK
ASW0004oux http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005504 got it first try
ASW00054e9 http://mite.physik.uzh.ch/data/005511 arc a bit too long

Hi all
I finally got to work and put together your models. (I wrote a script that just grapped everything that was mentioned in this thread). For those models that weren't modelled with pixel radius 12 I inceased it and I added the new synth image, but I didn't change anything on the model itself.
Here are the results and one last request:
Budgieye, ElisabethB and Capella05, could you maybe give a vote for the one you like most per sim? Or even come up with a favourite?Sim ID: ASW0003ctp
