Greens..

I wondered if the greens were stars in our system or not? If not what? and the galaxy is a hell of a lot brighter than the other pictures ive seen, i guess it's just closer? Just an amuter guessing here..

The emerald green thing, with the yellow-ish white core, is indeed a star in our own Milky Way (as is the one right on the border at the top); the fuzzy ball - with speckles of red, green, yellow, ... - looks very much like an elliptical galaxy (though it could also be a face-on lenticular). If you feel the galaxy is much brighter than in other images, then it's likely considerably closer ... but these distances are very 'relative'! All the galaxies you'll see are vastly further from us than any of the stars; however, the relative distances for the various galaxies is also huge, humongous even.
