    Quasars and the transverse proximity effect

    is looking for binary quasars using an automated search, but they might find lensed ones too.

    hint of a galaxy sticked to the left QSO in need of spectra for both to answer the question... 😃

    Interesting to look at these quasars. It is still hard to be sure that they are quasars, and the colour isn't diagnostic. (and I didn't know that there is a dr10 out in SDSS)

    I agree that without spectrum, there is no certainty for an object to be a QSO.

    However we have criteria, literature and catalogs to assess probabilities of QSO candidates from ugriz fluxes data:

    paper: Quasar candidates selection in the Virtual Observatory era ; R. D'Abrusco et al. ;
    catalog J/MNRAS/396/223/qsos

    paper: Think Outside the Color Box: Probabilistic Target Selection and the SDSS-XDQSO Quasar Targeting Catalog; Jo Bovy (NYU), Joseph F. Hennawi (MPIA), David W. Hogg (NYU, MPIA) et al.; catalog SDSS-XDQSO catalog
