probably the dense star forming region of a spiral galaxy--the bright white end may be the galaxy nucleus. It may be in a tug of war with a nearby galaxy. happy hunting

The blue thing is indeed a galaxy with lots of star formation going on. It could be interacting with another galaxy or it could be an irregular. The white end is not the nucleus but another galaxy.
