Canada-France-Hawaii Lens Survey Candidates #CFHTLS
People vs Computers
An automated computer search has already looked through the images that you see in classification. Also, some lenses have been found by humans by lucky chance.
If you have found a known lens candidate, it will say known lens candidate under the image.
If you have found a known lens candidate, post it at the end of this thread, and I'll update the list. Then we will have a list of known candidates, and the several different images that each appears in.
List consists of:
127 candidate with arcs SA1-SA127 . The first image is from Arcs summary table by anupreeta. The images are 75" across. Next is an image published in the journal, if one was published. Then maybe another image if one is available. Lastly, our Dashboard image, with ASW... number.
13 candidates surrounding groups of galaxies
13 candidates from the edge-on survey page 15
3 lensed quasars (from the Spotters Guide in Classification) page 17

http://arxiv.org/pdf/1002.1249.pdA quick way to scan through the arc lenses: Have two pages open. Open up a new page (Ctrl N) and go to SL"S-Arcs summary table, half-minimize. Click on the page, and use Ctrl+ to make the images bigger. Scroll down while comparing to your lens on SpaceWarps. Then if it is a known lens, them post it at the bottom of this thread, and I will update the list.

Bottom right: Maybe, but very hard to tell. My hunch is that the
separation is a bit wide for a single faint-ish red galaxy, but there
might be a group just off the frame.Posted

Please post them. I only have anupreeta's images. I would like to know if we can find her lenses in SpaceWarps. Then we can know immediately if a lens is already a candidate, and not waste time on something already known.

When I started it, the already discovered lenses weren't labelled as they came up for classification. Now we can tell if a lens isn't already in the list. Still, it is nice to keep score.
Now I am hoping to make some entertaining and educational comments about the lenses when I get more information from publications, if they are available.

I think it is good to keep track of the known lenses that we identify - personally I see them as a 'litmus' test - helps me keep on the right track!

your mention ARC is the type of lensed object, as in Anupreeta's doc;
but the coords that follow are the pointing frame center of the camera, not to be confused with the cut-out of the objects you post.
Those last coords are useless for us spotters!

Hey Budgie - I think it is the same candidate - just different images. I have heard they are going to inject the 'unsimulated' images of all the sims 😃

An unknown lens? If you see something that might be a lens, and hopefully there is no "Known Lens Candidate" under the image (it has been missing from some images) then it would be a new lens candidate. Perhaps other people may be posted it under a similar image, since sometimes a lens may appear on several different images. Perhaps it has been marked under classification, too.
However it is still only a candidate. To prove that it is a real lens, a spectrum must be taken, and a better image, usually using Hubble Space Telescope. That would take several years.

SL2SJ140614+520252
arXiv:1202.3852 THE SL2S GALAXY-SCALE GRAVITATIONAL LENS SAMPLE. from Raphael Gavazzi et al.
[quote] SL2SJ140614+520252 is another cusp configuration on a larger scale, as REin = 3”02+-0”15. Some blue light excesses are seen in the g-band image shown in Figure 3 and only the main \naked" cusp arc is captured by our model. However, we can see that the other western component is not multiply imaged as the source would fall outside the caustic. Thus, it does not provide more information and we verified that its inclusion does not change our conclusions on the lensing potential. Even by ignoring this second singly imaged source component, we find that this system involves the brightest sourceof the sample with g band ms = 23:50+- 0.03. We could not find a solution with a lensed source re-producing the southern and northeastern blue excesses. The lens potential is highly elongated with qSIE = 0.290+- 0.015. This is probably due to the additional contribution of a nearby galaxy about 8”3 in the southeast direction that corresponds to the major axis of the already quite elongated light component.
